Mobile Processing

Mobile Cover-1

Now this is what I’ve been waiting for. Processing finally hits the mobile platform! W00t!

Flash Lite is awesome, but is still seriously being let down by Macromedia’s inability to get the player out in the wild. The mobile platform market will have moved on considerably before Flash Lite reaches any kind of decent insertion. Shame, but it’s not like they haven’t had long enough to sort it out now is it? Personally, I’m still holding out for an Adobe ‘this is the real world’ kick in the Macromedia mobile arse – having had first hand experience of both company’s mobile offerings I think it’s fair to say that whilst Macr have a way more advanced product in Flash Lite it’s Adobe who have a clearer understanding of the market.

Anyway, Processing has been around for some time now and is the perfect platform for experimental Java programming. It was always kind of disappointing that you couldn’t run that stuff on your mobile handset – but now you can!!! :D

The peeps at USC Interactive Media Division are gonna go nuts for this :)

Early morning running II

My last post was way too smug and I knew there’d be a kick-back for it. Well, today I got kicked…

06something this morning, seafront again. 40mph gusting winds, lashing rain mixed with pelting sea water. My eye’s were stinging so much I couldn’t see where I was going and I was soaked to the skin within a minute of being out in the open.

But still I enjoyed it – there really must be something wrong with me… :)

Early morning running

06:28. Misty. Cold. Dark. Blood moon slowly dropping below the horizon. Heltor Skeltor flashing away at the end of pier as a sort of surrogate lighthouse. No one around at all.

I found that elusive rhythm that sees your feet, legs and lungs all working at just the right level to keep you going and going.

That was my run this morning.

iSmartTrain Icon

I’ve had a number of people contact me about iSmartTrain since I blogged about it a few weeks back. For the record, I can confirm that it is a brilliant program and well worth the money to buy. If I have one criticism of it, it’s that it’s not particularly ‘mac-like’ in appearance or execution but, that’s of no relevance really as the app functions and works exactly as you need it to.

It’s the perfect motivational tool for me. I only have to open it up to see last week’s activity totals and it makes me head out into the torrential rain so that I don’t have a downward trend in my charts… Sad, but true…

I was showing the app to someone yesterday and gave them the url to go buy it (yep, they were *that* impressed too) and they noticed that my icon for it is different to the ‘real’ one. I have a tendency to roll my own icons for apps who’s original I’m not fond of (sorry Stuart!) and that’s what I’d done here too… It’s not particularly good or original but it is a bit more mac-like and I like it… Anyway, click the pic to download it if you want to:

Fiticon

Please note: this isn’t an official icon, nor has it been approved by Otag etc. It’s just something I did for myself and have had a couple of enquiries about…

Just for you…

Loads of blog hype about the new Apple hardware etc (and quite rightly so) but no one seems to have picked up on the new ‘Just for you’ section on the iTunes Music Store… This is the first time that Apple has implemented recommendations no?

I think it needs some work though:

Picture 1

Because I bought a German Language eBook I should consider Moby apparently… I’m sure I’m missing something, but wtf?

Anyway, I’m glad I took my Nano back now – the new video iPod looks bloody amazing…
