Office Pranks

Note: This got on the front page of Digg the other day and the traffic took my site down without mercy. The link has been offline for a few days to let it all die down…

I saw a webpage a longtime ago that had some great pictures of office pranks but everytime I went to go back the site had busted it’s bandwidth and the pics weren’t available. After much hunting I’ve managed to put together a few of them for your enjoyment :D

The moral of this post? Don’t take sick days. Don’t go on vacation. Eat in your cube. Trust no-one. ;)

If anyone knows who’s photo’s these are then please pass on their details to me, or leave a comment so that I can credit them properly (there’s a faint watermark on some of them but all I can make out is ‘Pocket’).

Update: noneloud points out that the original images are to be found on Pocket Lint – thanks!

  1. The foil one was done in VMware’s Palo Alto office, but I don’t remember who the cuprits were.

  2. the third picture, the one with the bean sprouts growing outta the keyboard, is not an office prank but was actually posted in http://www.boinboing.net some months ago. Part of an art project of some guy, I dont remember the link right now.

  3. Yes, very good. I’ve been searching for a couple of these images for a while now too. Thanks for providing them… Regards, Bruce

  4. These are fabulous! I’ve never seen any of them before and I completely enjoyed not only looking at them, but imagining what it must’ve been like to be one of the culprits actually pulling off the stunts!

The keyboard embedded in the desktop looks way cool!

  5. Looking at just the blue channel, the watermark becomes a little clearer, but I still can’t read it.

    Here it is, though.

  6. Or not. The link was removed. Click my name to see it.

  7. Um I don’t think the keyboard’s embedded in the desk… they just sawed it in half then stuck half to the top of the desk then the other half beneath…

  8. Actually yes, the keyboard is embedded in the desk. They sawed a hold in the desk though. That much is noticeable from the woodchips underneath the keyboard. Very nice, definetly gave me a laugh.

  9. I’m pretty sure that after much experimentation the watermark says Pocket Art. At least thats what it looks like.

It’s a 3 letter word and the first is definitly an A shape and I’m sure the 3rd is a t and the second looks like an r in some colour amounts.

So overall I’m almost certain that it says Pocket Art

  10. If you look at the keyboard through the desk, you can tell the the desk itself was NOT cut. Anyone who has cut through a board knows that the sawdust does not fall only straight down. It looks as if the person(s) who perpetrated this prank, also dumped sawdust around the keyboard and under it to make it “appear” as if the desk had been cut through. However, the sawdust is not random enough for the desk to be sawn through

  11. The keyboard is NOT NOT NOT thru the desk. It is cut in half and the sawdust is a deliberate ‘verisimilitude’ thing. Nicely done. Gomorrah is wrong, wrong, wrong. That’s what he gets for hanging around Sodom.

  12. I am a bully. Like Herbie Dooskin, but I’m dead now. I lived in Daytona Beach where I was the terror of Seabreeze H.S. and ruined other kids’ days, for years. But, after a life as a cheating car mechanic, I died. So, now I have to pay for all my bullying. I did NOT cut that keyboard in half. I wasn’t there. I was busy bulling someone.

  13. I’m surprised this one didn’t make it up; http://www.albinckmet.com/OWI now these guys are hard core!

  14. Here’s alink to the keyboard moss:

  15. Judging by what I’ve seen myself and what has been on the forums I think it is pocket-lint

  16. Number four
That stuff is NOT sawdust. Sawdust results from cutting with a saw,
The chips beneath and on the desk, are compatible with the use of a drill and chisel, to chop a slot in chip-(particle) board.

  17. Neither funny nor clever. The office bully would do good to experience some of their own medicine except they are so insensitive they wouldn’t be able to feel the pain they cause to others. I wonder if the recipients really thought these were hilariously funny? Do unto others etc etc.

  18. Reminds me of the pranks I do in my office. I swapped monitor cables with two computers that were back to back. Victim thought his PC had developed independent intelligence… especially when I typed out “We are going to invade your world” and it came on his monitor. His horrified reaction was hilarious, and I spoilt all the fun by bursting out into laughter.

And I’m still up to more mischief in my office. ;)

  19. I would like to point out that in the keyboard through desk photo that the keyboardis elongated largly, proving it must be cut.

  20. Regarding picture 2 with all the red and white things, what are they and what is the prank meant to be depicting. I have no idea.
    Cheers.
    David

  21. I think the white and pink things are called marshmellows – must have blown the office petty cash allocation for the month.

  22. Dave, the the little red and white things are foam packing which is actually stated in the text on the image. As far as the prank goes, wouldn’t you be just the slightest bit amused?

  23. I am as amused by the comments as the pics here :)

  24. great pics keep them coming
    need the good laughs
    cheers
    renier

  25. One of the easiest branks is on turn down all the contrast/colour etc on the monitor so it looks blank, then shut down their pc. When they boot up it takes ages to work out why it’s not working! And the old sellotape on the phone button thing is an oldie but a goodie…(so it keeps ringing when they pick up the reciever….hahahahaha
