My mate Suw, from the Open Rights Group, blogs about an auction on Ebay where you can bid on:

120235170 321Bdad315 M

No, not Suw, but a Motorola Razr and first edition, signed copy of Eastern Standard Tribe. Both owned by Cory Doctorow – one created by him. Cory donated the items to the Open Rights Group and they’re auctioning them to raise some more hard cash to fight the good fight…

The Razr is crap but the book is awesome – and in this form, a first edition signed copy, it’s even better. That said, you can download it from here if you want to read it without laying out the $$.

Update: Ok, I’m out of the bidding. Nm, I hope that it continues to rise for the org. I’m not bitter </grittedteeth> ;)

Published iCal's and Timezone Support

So, I have a specific iCal that I’ve published to my .mac space. My iCal default timezone is Europe/London. I have timezone support switched on in iCal. This particular iCal is for an event happening overseas and all the relevant events that come under it have the correct timezone attribute set. When I publish the iCal to .mac, it defaults to show the iCal in European time rather than the time that the iCal is set for…

Does anyone understand what I’m going on about?

Does anyone know how to rectify the problem? :!

David Gilmour

Gilmourcomments

So, one of our clients, David Gilmour, has been running his blog (well, his people have) for a while now. It’s been wildly successful since the very beginning, but the other day it surpassed itself with an entry about David’s birthday by producing some 1200+ comments in a very short space of time…

Motionbased for Mac

I run (when not clenching) using a Garmin 301 GPS hrm. There are various ways of tracking your progress using the bundled software from Garmin, which is very good btw, or online apps like MotionBased. I tend to be ‘connected’ most of the time, but not necessarily on the same machine so MotionBased is a good solution for me. The downside being it’s PC only or course, and being totally Mac’d up means that really is quite a big downside! Anyway, they’ve announced a Mac web agent beta – yay!

I think others will be pleased with this too…

That’s all.

So, I try to convince myself that going to events like ETech is not as cool these days as it used to be. This strategy tends to work right up to the point that people start flickring photo’s of friends hanging out and then I realise I’ve budget-slapped myself once more (because I tend to not do speaking things these days, the cost of these events has to be met personally) and then proceed to mope for a few days about the whole thing.

Well, reading ValleyWag this morning and seeing pictures of Ben and Tom hanging out hasn’t broken that particular pattern of disappointment. Ah well, Mix 06 is coming up I guess – ping me if you’re gonna be there and maybe we can meet up and slag ETech off to make us (ok, me) feel better about the whole thing…

If it's not one thing…

So, spent from Saturday evening ’till Sunday evening feeling worse and worse. Come Sunday evening the world became a blur. Nete is talking to God on the great white telephone enough to make me think she has something going on with him, whilst I am visiting the other bathroom to play my role as Yang to her Ying – if you get my drift.

Katie has had Gastric flu for over a week now and my has she suffered, poor little bugger. Two visits to the doctor, the second prompting a rather quick dash to the local Children’s hospital later and she is, at last, beginning to get back on track. Of course, this is why Nete and I are now going down with the damn virus. Ten days of rather difficult 24-hour baby-comforting is enough to wear anyone down I guess…

Still, work has been a bit ‘on-top’ recently, and my body does rather like manifesting things like this flu in order to force a slow-down it seems. This time, I shall try to make the most of it, and really catch up with some r&r I think.
