Nokia N73 & iSync

Apple, in another amazing attempt at ignoring their customer’s needs, are seriously slow to update iSync with new phone profiles.

I just got a new Nokia N73 on the 3 network (more on this later). Needless to say, this is why I’m posting about Apple not keeping up with consumer demand, because the phone, which has been out for nearly 6 months now, is still not supported by iSync.

Thankfully, someone else does care about these ‘lost’ Apple customers and has written a plugin to make full sync’ing possible.

Have Apple given up on updating iSync?

  1. Pete: Hey… yeah Nokia. I am currently trying to run Flash Lite 2.1 on the N80 and wondered if you have had any luck running 2.1 on your N73.

Miss you in NYC since FF skipped us last year*

  2. Hi

I’m really desperate to get this to work but I don’t really understand the instructions completely – what does he mean by ‘highest library’?

    Thanks.

  3. Hi David! It did kind of miss out NYC huh? I’m not so sure it’ll be back either… :( I’m sure I’ll be over there again soon though – I’ll be sure to let you know if that’s the case…

So, I have Flash Lite 1.1 and 2.1 on the phone now. 1.1 ships with it and I installed 2.1 myself. Both work with no real problems at all. This is assuming, of course, that getting around 5 fps in 1.1 and 9 fps in 2.1 aren’t considered a problem. Unfortunately, I do… The player is dreadfully slow on the N73 for some reason but I haven’t had time to play with it much to see if anything can be done.

Siobhan, the highest library on the Mac operating system is in your root directory. So, the path would be; Macintosh HD -> Library; There are two places for libraries on the Mac, the main one referred to above, and also each user has a library too. (Note: the ‘Macintosh HD’ name might not be the same on your system if you have renamed it at any stage – but, it doesn’t really matter what it’s called to get this to work).

  4. You’ll be glad to know that today’s 10.4.9 update includes native support for the N73 in iSync. Now I’m just trying to figure out how to get Address Book to work with it so I can send SMS using a real keyboard…

  5. Thanks for the pointer Chris… I’ll try to work out the address book thing too :)

  6. hi chris did you manage to figure out how to send sms on the the N73 via the address book? please let me know thanks
