Right out of the box there seems to be a but of an issue with syncing on Vista for some users with the new HTC Diamond so I thought I’d drop a note on how to fix it here.

Symptom: You plug the device in, it installs a driver but is unrecognized within the Windows Mobile Device Center completely.

Fix:

  1. Unplug the device from the computer
  2. Hit ‘Start’ and go to the settings
  3. Select the ‘Connections’ tab
  4. Tap ‘USB to PC and uncheck ‘Enable advanced network functionality’
  5. Tap ‘OK’
  6. Re-connect the phone via USB

Vista should now recognize the device properly and fire up WMDC to allow you to set your preferences etc.

Hope this helps.

  2. It didn’t work for me, I don’t know what to do.
I tried everything but it can’t seem to appear on the Mobile Device Manager and synchronize :(

  3. Not working for me either.

  4. WMDC recognizes the diamond just fine but i can’t seem to synchronize anything other than mobile favorites. Anyone know a fix to that?

  5. this problem seems like ancient history, and still no answer. I have had now 36 hours of service assistance from HTC and Windows Mobile “customer care” people in Surabaya and Jakarta, and they just keep on resetting and reinstalling and causing me grief with less progress than regress. Over three months and still no syncing which is why i bought the b.. thing. Hasn’t anyone on the web found a solution yet?

  6. The fix worked by unselecting sync faster option in settings, connectiions tab, USB to PC menu.

    Thanks
