Open Video Player is a community site dedicated to sharing best practices around video player development. You can download player source code, reference plug-ins for advertising technologies as well as get advice from a community of designers, developers and content owners.

This is a great idea and it’s brilliant to see so many key players in the market all signing up. If you have need of a video player for your site then it’s very well worth checking this initiative out.

I’ve been offline quite a bit this autumn through a combination of outside committments and sickness unfortunately. During that time, I seem to have lost my Google pagerank pretty much (although that could also be down to migrating to WP just before going offline). This all makes me wonder if it’s actually worth keeping this site going as a blog… Anyway, there are some things that I want to write a bit about in the coming weeks so I’ll keep it going for at least that time.

I’ve been messing around with Camerabag (warning: link will open in iTunes) for the iPhone and I’m totally loving it! The app will allow you to take photos using the built in camera, or select an existing image that’s on the phone already, and add effects to it based on the typical results from certain types of cameras and lenses. The image of my cameras above was enhanced with the ‘Helga’ filter; an obvious reference to a Holga clearly, but the effect is brilliant. Other filters include: Lolo; Fisheye; 1972; 1969; Ansel; Infrared; Cinema. Well worth playing around with imo

The first public photo with an EOS 6d?

This is my friend Jim O’Connell who took me on a quick walk around Kabuchiko on a recent visit to Tokyo. And, here’s a link to some speculative information about the ‘upcoming’ 6d and possible 3d too.

Edit: I understand that Jim was just messing with EXIF data and this isn’t a 6d image - I got too excited (being in the market for a full frame Canon right now…) so, in answer to my opening question - no it isn’t… But it’s still a great photo of someone I happen to like and respect so I’ve left it up…

I’ve agreed to speak at the Singularity 08 web conference in October this year. I’ll be talking about mobile platforms and the impending proliferation of new technologies that will be coming online in the next year or so and how this might affect an already hugely fragmented space for developers.

I’m really only just formulating the session now so I will update here as it evolves. Please do drop me a mail or leave a comment if you have a particular interest in this subject? I’d love to integrate as much external opinion as possible too…
